Analysts anticipate that Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console will achieve record-breaking sales upon its expected June 2025 launch, despite a projected price increase. Industry experts suggest the new console could be priced between $399 and $499, reflecting enhanced hardware capabilities. Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein forecasts an initial stock of 6 to 8 million units, aiming to prevent supply shortages and scalping issues. For comparison, the original Switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month, while the PlayStation 5 reached 4.5 million units in its first quarter.
Serkan Toto highlights that a robust lineup of first-party titles, including new installments of Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Pokรฉmon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4, alongside substantial third-party support, will drive strong sales regardless of the console's price.
The Switch 2 is expected to maintain the hybrid design of its predecessor, featuring a larger 8-inch LCD screen and improved technical specifications. Backward compatibility with existing Switch software is anticipated, though some games may face compatibility issues. Additional features include an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 and a new top-mounted USB-C port.
More details, including the official launch date, pricing, and game lineup, are expected to be revealed during Nintendo's upcoming livestream on April 2.
